An important part of any strategy game is the ability to expand your roster and fill it with all kinds of units to take into battle, this is no different for Digimon Survive the new Visual Novel/Strategy Role Playing Game from Bandai Namco. In this Digimon Survive Recruitment Guide, we’ll cover what you need to know about finding Digimon and recruiting them to join your team.

Digimon Survive Recruitment – When can I start recruiting Digimon?

Starting Digimon Survive you’ll get to experience the kick-off of the story. Here you’ll experience the maint characters making their way to the Digital World, and the first few of them meeting their Digimon partners. After clearing through the Prologue of the story and into Part 1 of the game you’ll be able to Free Battle for the first time. Free Battle will unlock at the same time as when you can begin exploring the school building.

Free Battle isn’t just where you can go to battle Digimon and earn items and experience but this is also when players will be able to recruit Digimon for the first time. Once you highlight the Free Bat. option on the World Map you’ll be able to see at the bottom of the screen what type of Digimon will appear.

As you progress through the story be sure to revisit previous locations as the Digimon that are present might change or grow.

Digimon Survive Recruitment – How can I recruit Digimon?

Once in a battle instead of choosing to attack or move you can instead select the talk option.

Instead of choosing to talk with your own party members, a useful tactic to boost your abilities in battle, instead you can choose to talk with the enemy Digimon. This will start up a conversation with the Digimon where you need to put them in a good mood to try to have them join your side.

From here the Digimon will begin to ask you a variety of questions, if you’ve played the Persona series then you’ll likely recognize these kinds of conversations. There will be a total of three different questions that the Digimon will ask you and you need to answer in a way that you think the Digimon would like to hear. If you get exactly what the Digimon wants to hear the bar will increase two stages, if you only answer somewhat correctly then you’ll only fill the bar one space.

A bar will appear over the Digimon as you answer, if you answer in a way that the Digimon would like then the bar will begin to fill, once it is above the middle line you’ll then be able to ask the Digimon for something. This is when you can ask for an item, or ask the Digimon to be part of your team. If you don’t manage to get over the midway line with an enemy Digimon they’ll get a stat boost against you so be careful! Even if you manage to completely fill the friendship bar with a Digimon during its conversation keep in mind that there’s still a chance that after asking for the Digimon to join you they might not.

You’ll be able to see the percentage chance of a Digimon accepting being recruited on the choice screen between recruitment or asking for items. If it’s a particularly low recruitment chance then it might be worth it to just ask for an item. The stronger the Digimon is compared to your current party the lower the recruitment chance will be so if you really want a Digimon but are unable to recruit it at this time then you can level up and try again later.
