- Ana de Armas is starring in a new Netflix movie about Marilyn Monroe titled ‘Blonde,’ premiering September 28th.
- The actress is almost unrecognizable in the latest behind-the-scenes photos.
- De Armas’ embodiment of the role gathers support from many, including Jamie Lee Curtis.
Ana de Armas is nearly indistinguishable from the iconic Marilyn Monroe in the latest trailer for her upcoming film Blonde. The star recently shared both the trailer and an assortment of behind-the-scenes photos, creating lots of buzz for the film, which is set to premiere on September 28th on Netflix.
The Knives Out actress shocked fans with her astonishing resemblance to the Hollywood bombshell, complete with blonde hair, Monroe’s signature mole, and sultry makeup. De Armas shared a batch of photos to social media yesterday, writing in her caption that “it was such a gift” to be a part of “this beautiful project.”
With so much excitement surrounding the film and de Armas’ depiction of Monroe, fans and stars alike are showing their support. Even Jamie Lee Curtis joined the conversation, weeks after getting super candid about first impressions of her former costar. In speaking about assumptions, Curtis admitted with embarrassment that she assumed de Armas “was an inexperienced, unsophisticated young woman,” but quickly changed her tune after working with the impressive actress on Knives Out, revealing she was “so impressed” by her.
Yesterday, Curtis shared a post of her own promoting the Blonde with the caption: “Go ahead and blow up the internet my beautiful friend! @ana_d_armas @blondethefilm.”
And boy did the internet blow up. “I have chills,” one fan wrote below the movie trailer. “Can’t wait for this!” another wrote. And in response to more behind-the-scenes photos, one comment read: “an uncanny resemblance. ❤️,” another: “You are Marilyn 💕.”
De Armas even offered some insight into her role, egging on fans. “Watched by all, seen by none,” de Armas captioned her post accompanying the long-awaited trailer. “BLONDE comes to @netflix Sept 28. 💋 #BlondeonNetflix.”
The trailer begins with de Armas as Monroe smiling and blowing a kiss into a mirror, and quickly takes a turn to reveal a bigger picture. Scene after scene shows the star grappling with the complications of her public image while an eerie rendition of Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend plays in the background. “Marilyn Monroe doesn’t exist,” the star whispers in the film. “When I come out of my dressing room, I’m Norma Jean. I’m still her when the camera’s rolling. Marilyn Monroe only exists on the screen.”
De Armas previously revealed the amount of commitment required for her stunning debut as Monroe. “We worked on this film for hours, every single day for almost a year,” de Armas explained in an interview with Netflix Queue. “I read Joyce’s novel, studied hundreds of photographs, videos, audio recordings, films—anything I could get my hands on. Every scene is inspired by an existing photograph.”
A few weeks ago, de Armas shared another Instagram post dedicated to Blonde, detailing the vision for the film which was “to present a version of Marilyn Monroe’s life through her lens…to experience what it actually felt like to not only be Marilyn, but also Norma Jeane,” she wrote. “I found that to be the most daring, unapologetic, and feminist take on her story that I had ever seen.”
And, it’s clear that the role is important to de Armas—on June 1st, Norma Jean’s birthday, the star posted a tribute writing: “Happy birthday Norma. I can’t wait to celebrate you this year. ♥️.”
We are completely hooked on both the film’s magnetic trailer and de Armas’ commitment to the iconic role. We don’t know about you, but we’re already preparing for the September 28th release date.
